As I type this, I’m about to take a totally random 10-day vacation. On this vacation I plan to: See my family in California. Spend 3 days with my college BFFs, as we do each year. Spend 2 days working on a totally random creative project JUST FOR FUN.
For the modern me, this is not unusual. For the me of yesteryear, working in Silicon Valley and hustling that particular brand of corporate hustle, ten days off was pretty much like RED ALERT. 10 DAYS. ALL HANDS ON DECK TO GET READY. ME BE CRAZY. WHAT THE WHAT?!?
Going on a 10-day vacation for no good reason required lots of headaches and guilt and aspirin and an insane amount of preparation and discussion.
(It’s annoying as heck to look back on if I’m being honest.)
These days, my random days off and random 10-day vacations are only possible because I work for myself. Although working for yourself isn’t for everyone, for some people it’s the only way;)
For me, working at home was something I wanted to do for years. But making it happen was something that I kept putting off…year after year. This morning, as I sit in a coffee shop typing this note on a soon-to-be-vacation 10,000 miles away from home, I’m intimately aware of everything about working for myself I love.
And that everything is pretty much summed up in one word: Freedom.

Instead, building on her skills and taking the right actions, Caitlin turned her side hustle as a proofreader into her primary income — and beyond.
In fact — get this — her proofreading side hustle grew into a multimillion-dollar media company she runs from home with the help of 25+ virtual team members.
That business now generates $200,000+ per month. #omg
Thing is, Caitlin is nobody special. She still puts on her high-waisted Madewell jeans the same way I do.
She started at rock bottom after getting fired.
