Not to brag or anything, but I’ve created a hashtag or two in my day.

Shockingly, though, things like #nyquildreams or #aKenyanmosquitojustdiedonmyface have a tendency to not catch on. So much so that, if I dig deep into the archives of my hashtag memory I find a shocking fact: no hashtag I have ever created has ever been used by another person.

Alas, this has all changed tonight.

It started with a simple question sent via Twitter. How many times do I tell causes and non-profits in trainings that the best thing you can do when you don’t know what to do on Twitter is ask a genuine question? And my question was nothing but genuine. I desperately needed an answer. After all, since I’m speaking at some stuff at SXSW — I’d like a hashtag to know who the heck to try and stalk while I’m there.

So I sent this Tweet:

Some general retweeting by others ensured, and then my friend and social media star/author Deanna Zandt wrote back something particularly productive:

Now, if I must say, this Tweet really impressed me. Why I was unable to actually make a suggestion for a hashtag in my original Tweet is beyond me, but it probably has something to do with the fact that Deanna knows how to publish books on social media many months before I do. But if I must say, I really stepped in and summarized things like nobody’s business:

.

So there you have it. A hashtag for all things causes, non-profits, pro-social, and social good at South by Southwest. #SXSWGood

My work here is done.
