King Leopold’s Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa by Adam Hochschild is another incredible book about Africa. Specially about King Leopold of Belgium’s disastrous role in what is now Congo (the former Belgian Congo, the former Zaire).
Here’s a fantastic quote:
“In 1866, Livingstone set off on another long expedition, looking for slave-traders, potential Christians, the Nile, or anything else that might need discovering.”
