Maybe you’re not me.
Maybe you don’t have websites that you actually want to be live and readable on the Interwebs, including two sites (ClaireDiazOrtiz.com and Twitter4Good.com) that happen to be relevant to a certain book launch rather important to your psyche.
Maybe you’re also not traveling through rural SouthEast Asia on a delayed honeymoon with limited internet access in the weeks leading up to said book launch.
Maybe (and only if the above is true, of course), you are not, for example, writing this blog post from the edge of a cliff near the border of Vietnam and China.
Maybe, just maybe, you have not yelled into the bright, clear, mountain air more than ten times in the last 36 hours after each and every new useless conversation with Hostgator personnel regarding why they can’t provide service to your websites in accordance with the precious cash money you provide them with on a monthly basis.
Maybe, just maybe, you’re not desperately emailing your tech who has just recently given birth and is likely not even looking at her iphone as she nurses the beautiful, precious newborn BUT you still email anyway, again and again, because you have no other idea of how to find someone trustworthy who can deal with all your site switching madness to extricate you from the nightmare that is being in bed with Hostgator while you are, as I said, in the middle of nowhere.
Maybe, just maybe, you had heard from dozens of bloggers you respect that Hostgator always sucks when times get tough and you just hadn’t listened because you had never really had a problem before. So maybe, just maybe, you are kicking yourself a little too hard right now.
Maybe, just maybe, you are (contrary to me) actually able to contain your rage with the useless customer service personnel who seem to make it their job to hate their terrible service even more. Maybe, when they tell you lie after lie and contradict everything the past seven service reps you’ve talked to in the past 36 hours said and then tell you everything is working fine while you have your friend in London checking at the exact moment and she says it’s not working for her either, maybe you don’t get into such pathetic arguments with the raging idiots:
Maybe, just maybe, you’re not going out of your mind enraged like a toddler having a tantrum in a local Walmart.
Maybe, just maybe, you’re not me.
Because if you were me, you might know what kind of deranged logic is involved to decide that your big coup de grace is to slam (!) out of the chat conversation with the latest Hostgator manager by sending him the blog post you wrote (this very one!) telling him how much you hate Hostgator.
Revenge is sweet, alas!
(tears)
Watch me!

But rage makes you write so good! Very funny
May I suggest that you consider a Canadian company?
American companies seem to not care so much about us northerners.
Perhaps check out 123ezhosting.com based on the west coast – affordable and the service i have received over the years has been awesome.
Happy honeymoon!
Thank you for this! I’ve been looking into self-hosting and because of this post, I will never use Hostgator!
Never use Hostgator!!
Hostgator has definitely become too big to satisfy their customers. Hostgator customer service-chat sucks and has become as “short” and rude as the rest.
Their advertised: “Unlimited” term is quite untrue in reality. And as much as I loathe Godaddy,
I am considering going back.
Hostgator sucks today.
i have paid them (hostgator) for new account, … the answer :
“””” There is a problem with your billing account. Please contact sales@hostgator.com to get this resolved.””””
I know for sure that i am not in any black-list ot something …i have never done anithing wrong in my life.
They have made me send them all my prudentials … all kind of personal information, bank account screenshots and whatnot … and still – no answer.
People, do not go there. Avoid hostgator… something is really wrong with this company.
I am amazed at how useless HostGator.com customer service is. Instead of simply being helpful, which they could, if they had any inclination towards effort, they opt to waste more time spouting policies. Stay away from HostGator.com
…] all worn out now. What with being on my delayed honeymoon and writing surprise-ridden blog posts, I think it’s time for another Siem Reap special […]
I have had minor down time with Hostgator before, they do oversell their shared hosting accounts but I have yet to find many that don’t. I also use Cyberwurx (hate recommending someone as you know it will be the kiss of death) who I have found to be very reliable but again, when it comes to shared hosting you only need one bad egg on that shared account with a rogue script and all hell can break loose.
Companies that offer “unlimited” web hosting tend to appeal to those who want to hammer the servers for all they are worth. I know some of those “unlimited” web hosts have terms of service that allow them to terminate accounts that use too many server resources. But that happens after they have caused problems for all the other accounts on the shared server.
The web host I use is A Small Orange. They are great. The hosting plans they sell have actual limits to prevent people from hammering the servers and to discourage the riff raff from joining in the first place.
hostgator is smooth cheating company, they say unlimited but they put TOS to not to use unlimited hosting, when you contact support team they wont give reply and just say that “the account usage violates terms and conditions”
It’s a pity you don’t have a donate button! I’d definitely donate to this excellent blog! I guess for now i’ll settle for bookmarking and adding your RSS feed to my Google account.
I look forward to brand new updates and will talk about this site with my Facebook group.
Talk soon!
You know they’ve been down all day today? It’s been about 6 hours of agonizing waiting. Their chat is down, their hosting is down, and their phones are down. Rackspace here I come…
I couldn’t agree more. Moving to another company called Eleven2 – good authentic reviews and more bang for your buck 🙂
I just experienced an 8 hour outage with Hostgator.
Hostgator has joined the ranks of Lunarpages and Bluehost (also known as downtime)
4 years ago Hostgator’s uptime and support was very good.
This no longer holds true.
You know it is time to leave when the email from support says,
“We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused”.
I hate hostgator now. I been using for years. Lately service sucks can not even contact them. Bad thing is I dont realy like Godaddy either. Any ideas
Hmm it seems like your website ate my first comment (it
was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote
and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing.
Do you have any helpful hints for newbie blog writers?
I’d certainly appreciate it.
Weird. Mine work fine. 4 years now.

I’m excited to discover this great site. I wanted to thank you for ones time
just for this wonderful read!! I definitely liked
every part of it and i also have you book marked to check out new information in your website.
To validate how sucky Hostgator has become, here is an open letter to them:
Dear hostgator, you can not imagine how outraged I am now. You made me very upset with your reckless behavior. I have been hosting my company websites with you for a long time and never had any issues until lately when I started receiving these “CPU Abuse” Emails, I have responded to everyone of them and you even discovered that the site was coming under attack from outside Ip addresses; something that I cannot control.
You are impacting our company revenue and interrupting customer access to our services by suspending our account. Your actions are baseless because this is an open internet where good and bad people can surf freely. I believe that I have taken all necessary precautions to protect my websites and your servers. Your actions are in need of immediate correction before I involve my attorney and file legal action against Hostagator for impacting and interfering with our business and internet commerce. As a loyal and long time customer, my expectations were that you would work with us not only to send us a “scolding” email accusing of abusing your resources but to offer real suggestions of how to address the issue. As I explained before “abuse” by definition is a deliberate act and in this case your choice of words could not be any more wrong. These CPU uses are due to hackers trying to flood the website with fake traffic in hope of injecting malicious code.
I highly recommend that you restore the account to full access immediately. Please reconsider your actions and restore our access at your earliest convenience.
Sometimes sh..t happen. Its important to choose right server. I am using arvixe and my site is always on. You can check it :
West London man and van
Informative article, exactly what I was looking for.
Incredible such a important web site.
What is the best web server company at the moment? Any suggestions? Thank you.
